English Online Training for Skippers & Crew
PB Marine Training gives you the opportunity to train your English online, directly with a former British marine radio officer.
We offer tailor-made English training by video conference — individually matched to your personal knowledge and needs.
The great advantage: you train comfortably from home or on the go and save yourself the trip to a classroom. At the same time, we can focus specifically on the language requirements you need as a skipper or crew member.
Marine Radio English — specifically for communication at sea
With us you learn marine radio English as it is used in maritime communication on the world's oceans.
This is not just about general English skills. We concentrate specifically on the English language, technical terms and typical phrases needed in marine radio.
This is an important difference from a general English course: A conventional English course teaches general language skills, but does not cover the specific English terminology and communication you need as a skipper or crew member in marine radio.
Our goal is to give you the linguistic confidence you need to understand English radio messages at sea and to communicate yourself safely and correctly.
Who is the training for?
Our online training is aimed in particular at:
- Skippers and crew members who do not yet have sufficient English skills to take part safely in an SRC course.
- Participants who want to prepare for an upcoming SRC course and exam.
- Skippers who are shortly before their next sailing trip and want to refresh or improve their English skills.
- Participants who have already completed an SRC course and want to refresh their existing knowledge and technical terms.
What to expect in the training
The training is practice-oriented and focuses on the English communication you need as a skipper or crew member on the water.
Among other things we practise:
- key nautical technical terms and standard procedure words,
- the correct English pronunciation,
- the phonetic alphabet,
- typical radio messages and radio communication in English,
- routine, safety, urgency and distress messages,
- the safe understanding and formulation of radio messages,
- as well as the subsequent joint discussion and practical application.
For presentation and processing of prepared texts we use PowerPoint among others.

Cost of the online training
€25 / CHF 25 per hour
This price applies to participants who are already registered for an SRC course at PB Marine Training, or have already completed one.
